Bayside Woman Among Group to Pick Winning Lottery Ticket

Employees from Manhattan firm win $1 million Powerball drawing.

A Bayside woman was among a group of 12 workers from a Manhattan financial services firm to share winnings from a $1 million Powerball prize, according to the New York State Lottery.

The lottery handed out a total $19 million in prizes Wednesday during an event at Jamaica’s Resorts World New York City Casino.

Sheila Cheung, of Bayside, was part of a group of 12 workers from CSW-Group LLC that won a $1 million Powerball second prize from a drawing held on Aug. 1.

The group’s members, who hail from Maspeth, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Nassau and Westchester Counties, will share a net check totaling $661,803.

Another borough resident – Chef Ioannis Alexander of Astoria – also won the $1 million second prize, according to the Lottery.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
