Bayside to Get Some Style

Bayside about to get more fashionable

Bayside may get a taste of couture in months to come.

The Bayside BID this week announced that it is planning “Fashion Week on Bell Boulevard” to help attract attention and shoppers to the area.

BID President Gregg Sullivan said the group conceives of featured designers hunkering down in empty storefronts on Bell Blvd, similar to an event last year that housed an artist’s gallery showing in an unrented bank office.

The BID last year organized an artists’ street fair that was well attended. Recent budget cuts to NYPD and the Department of Sanitation have left the agencies unwilling to accept applications to approve large street fairs, according to Sullivan.

They hope to orchestrate more sidewalk events in the spring, summer and fall.

The BID also announced that they hope to present "Dinner and a Movie" summer nights series in association with the Bayside Historic Society. Participating restaurants would offer a special dinner after an outdoor movie.
