Bayside Historical Society to Host Wine Tasting, Jazz Brunch, Holiday Decorating

Group will also hold an event on Bayside's history at the Lawrence Cemetery.

The Bayside Historical Society is hosting a wine tasting event, a performance at a cemetery, holiday decorating and a jazz brunch in the next several weeks.

On Nov. 9, the group is holding an event at Bayside’s Lawrence Cemetery, located at 216th Street and 42nd Avenue, during which local actors will give voice to famous residents from the community.

The cemetery is the final resting place of the city’s first popularly elected mayor, Cornelius Van Wyke Lawrence, as well as descendants of Bayside’s founding families. The event begins at 2 p.m. and is free of charge.

The historical society will host its autumn wine tasting event on Nov. 10 at 2 p.m.

The tasting will include a variety of fine wines and hors d’oeuvres from Bayside’s Papazzio Restaurant.

Admission is $45 for historical society members and $50 for nonmembers. Reservations can be made by calling 718-352-1548.

On Nov. 23, the historical society will decorate its castle from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The group is seeking local volunteers to help with the holiday decoration event.

And, the society will hold its Winter Solstice Jazz Brunch at noon on Dec. 1.

Attendees will be able to enjoy food and drink while listening to a jazz ensemble.

Admission is $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers. Reservations are required.

The Bayside Historical Society is located in the castle at Fort Totten, located at 208 Totten Ave.
