Bayside Historical Society to Host Civil War Reenactment

Group will also hold Oktoberfest event and trip to Belmont Racetrack.

The Bayside Historical Society will host a Civil War reenactment at Fort Totten this weekend as well as an upcoming Oktoberfest event and a trip to Belmont Racetrack.

Peter Ridout, a member of the 124th New York Volunteers Civil War Reenactment Unit, will set up a two-camp enactment. Attendees will be able to interact with Civil War soldiers at the event, which is sponsored by Benjamin N. Cardozo High School.

The event will run from noon to 3 p.m. on Sept. 22 outside of the castle at Fort Totten, located at 208 Totten Ave.

The suggested donation for the event is $5.

On Oct. 6, the historical society will host an Oktoberfest event from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Ein Prosit! will include beer, brats, pretzels and other traditional German foods and drink as well as music and games.

The event is free, but reservations are suggested. Historical society members will receive a free commemorative stein.

On Oct. 17, the society will take a trip to Belmont Racetrack in Elmont.

Attendees will pay $75 for the event, which will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the Turf and Field Club, which overlooks the racetrack.

It will include a cocktail hour, buffet lunch, beverages, desserts, racing programs and private betting.
