Bayside Hills Lands on the Map

A multinational corporation acknowledges a tiny stretch of Northeast Queens with its own name.

Google may be sympathetic to those fighting for a name.

Last December, barely a year after getting their leafy enclave, bounded by 48th Avenue, Springfield Boulevard, the Long Island Expressway and 211th Street, recognized as its own postal address, residents of Bayside Hills found the USPS and other institutions had into Oakland Gardens.

Now, Google has struck them back out by distinguishing the neighborhood on Google Maps.

"It was a long, long gradual process to get zip code 11364 recognized," said Bayside Hills Civic Association President Michael Feiner. He believes the changed map was the doing of Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-Brooklyn and Queens, which he says bombarded all the databases with requests to be distinguished.
