The Bayside Hills Civic Association will host its annual Sept. 11 ceremony at 7 p.m. at the corner of Horace Harding Expressway and Bell Boulevard.
This year’s featured speaker will be Community Board 11 Chairman Jerry Iannece, who donated and helped to install the 9/11 plaque at the locale where the ceremony will take place.
Michael Feiner, president of the civic, said the event draws more than 200 local residents every year.
"It's handled very locally," Feiner said of the event. "It's an event for the entire community. And it's a beautiful memorial."
Elected officials expected to attend the event include state Sen. Tony Avella, Councilman Mark Weprin and state Assembly members Edward Braunstein, Nily Rozic and David Weprin.
Other guests include the Oakland Little Neck Jewish Center’s Rabbi Gordon Yaffe, St. Robert Bellarmine’s Monsignor Martin Geraghty, members of the 111th Precinct, Engine 326/Ladder 160, Battalion 53 and various Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts packs.
Acoustical guitarist Seth Baskin will perform the “National Anthem.”
Attendees are asked to bring candles, but American flags will be provided at the event.
The plaque and Bayside Hills Civic’s 9/11 Memorial Display includes actual artifacts from the World Trade Center. Bayside’s Keil Bros. nursery assists with the memorial’s upkeep.
