Bayside Anglers to Host Annual Little Neck Bay Cleanup on April 14

Those interested in volunteering should sign up no later than April 1.

The Bayside Anglers will host its 19th annual Waterfront Day and shore cleanup at Little Neck Bay on April 14.

The event, which is coordinated with the city’s Parks Department, will take place along a three-mile stretch of public shoreline in Bayside, where volunteers will remove debris and trash from the bay.

Attendees will be provided with refreshments and food. And all participants are entered for a chance to win raffle prizes that have been donated by the event’s sponsors.

Northeast Queens organizations interested in participating in the cleanup should contact the Anglers’ event coordinator no later than April 1 with a list of members or volunteers that will be attending.

Community service certificates will be handed out to volunteers who request them.

Those interested in attending should bring work gloves and a paper reacher as well as wear boots to prevent from slipping on rocks.

Sign-in booths will be set up on the day of the event at Joe Michael’s Mile on the other side of the footbridge opposite Crocheron Pond, the Bayside Marina and Little Bay Park.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m. The cleanup lasts until noon. Lunch and raffles begin at 12:30 p.m.

To RSVP, email president@baysideanglers.com. For those who cannot attend the event, but wish to contribute, send a tax-deductible contribution made payable to Bayside Anglers  Group Ltd., P.O. Box 605048 Bayside, NY 11360.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
