The MTA is warning LIRR commuters of 10-20 minute delays during their morning commute today, following the derailment of an Amtrak train inside an East River Tunnel.

Including the 6:17 a.m. train from to Penn Station, 23 Westbound trains are to be diverted, terminated at Jamaica station or dashed entirely. The MTA warns that cancellations and delays for tonight's commuter trains are also likely, as Amtrak is working to re-rail four coaches.

The derailment was caused by a broken rail in the tunnel, according to the MTA. LIRR and Metro-North forces may assist Amtrak in the efforts.
