Events

Also on Monday, Alley Pond Environmental Center will offer its Wee Sprouts and Toddler Time programs, while the Douglaston Little Neck Library will hold its weekly knitting and crocheting class.

Universal pre-kindergarten will begin Monday and run every day of the week after school at the Community Church of Douglaston.

There will be an AA meeting Wednesday at 7:45 p.m. at the Community Church of Douglaston.

Queensborough Community College will hold a walk to raise money for scholarships on Wednesday.

Preparing for Pesach with Rabbi Gordon Yaffe will be held on Wednesday at the Little Neck Jewish Center.

The Bayside Business Association will host its March membership meeting on Thursday.

There will be an Erev Shabbat service on Friday evening at the Little Neck Jewish Center.

The Hit Men and guest comedian John Carfi will perform at Queensborough Community College on Saturday.

Announcements

Mobile service for the Bayside Library, located at 214-20 Northern Blvd., is currently in service. The library will be closed for a few months to allow for a renovation.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
