Events

Also on Monday, Alley Pond Environmental Center will offer its Wee Sprouts and Toddler Time programs, while the Douglaston Little Neck Library will hold its weekly knitting and crocheting class.

There will be an AA meeting Wednesday at 7:45 p.m. at the Community Church of Douglaston.

There will be an auction at Flushing’s Church on the Hill on Saturday. The Bayside-Whitestone Lions Club will host its monthly meeting on Saturday evening.

“Blue's Clues Live” will perform at Queensborough Community College on Sunday afternoon. Click here to read Patch’s preview of the event.

Announcements

The National Art League is hosting a holiday exhibit and art sale through the end of the day on Dec. 31.

Community Board 11 will hold its next meeting on Jan. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Bayside’s M.S. 158, which is located at 46-35 Oceania St. The meeting will include a public hearing on the proposed expansion of Bayside’s Trattoria 35.

Mobile service for the Bayside Library, located at 214-20 Northern Blvd., will begin on Jan. 7. The library will be closed for a few months to allow for a renovation.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
