A Bronx Tradition

Christmas over the bridge

My husband is a Bronx boy. Growing up in Bayside, I rarely crossed the bridge (either one) to venture into that borough.

But when I started dating Barry, it was over the bridge we flew to introduce me to a holiday tradition.

Now every year the week after Christmas, we take the girls to show them the "Christmas House" on Pelham Pkwy. This is not just holiday decor viewing, this is an event.

The house is located at 1605 Pelham Pkwy. North. It's easy to find; You can't miss the line up of cars and all the lights.

There is plenty of Christmas stuff here, but there are also Hollywood icon mannequins. They, as well as other "beautiful people" are decked out in formal wear, featuring full-length gowns, high heels and sparkly jewels.

The mannequins can differ from year to year, with a Michael Jackson spotting, Beauty and the Beast dancing, Superman and Lois Lane, and Mickey and Minnie. Santa too.

There is a white grand piano, a horse and carriage with Cinderella and the Radio City Rockettes (as mannequins) all in a line. There is music blaring and mannequins dancing and twirling.

Sometimes you can spy into the house and see the creator hard at work making a dress for yet another mannequin, perhaps for next year.
