100 Cigarettes or NYE Plans

December 31, 2010

Well, Happy New Year's Eve, Bayside. Your local editor is having trouble switching gears into confetti mode after the kind of news week we've had.

She's still upset thinking about how Bayside was snowed in so , and how that affected everything from public safety to business owners and commuters.

She'll toast tonight to the Department of Sanitation doing the job quicker in 2011. Here are five things we think you should know this Friday:

1. Alternate side of the street parking is again suspended today, this time for New Year's Eve. No need to feed the meter either.

2. There's this bit of info to chew on we got from a press teleconference with Councilman Dan Halloran yesterday: 400 Department of Sanitation workers called out sick, and an additional 100 requested an emergency day off during the blizzard.

Bayside Patch isn't stepping into any allegations, or analysis of those figures. Just putting them out there .

3. Do you have New Year's Eve plans yet? Rustle up a date and just get out. We can't help you out with the date (can we, actually? that'd be a fun story, and undertaking) but we've done half the work by finding out where you can do your (tasteful) midnight .

Or maybe you can pick up a kissy partner while out on Bell. We sincerely wish you success if that's your mission.

4. If you're doing the I'm-too-cool-to-deal-with-crowds, staying in thing, 200 Cigarettes is the only NYE flick your local editor can even think of, and therefore the best she can think of.

5. Check back in with Patch today to see how the 111th Police Precinct fared with crime statistics.
