Introducing Alley Pond Environmental Center

Learn a little bit about your local environmental and APEC's educational center!

The Alley Pond Environmental Center (APEC), a nonprofit environmental education organization, is dedicated to educating children and adults in the New York metropolitan area, protecting and preserving Alley Pond Park, open spaces and waterbodies and advocating for sustainable environmental policies and practices.

If you grew up in Queens and you’re in your 40s or younger, chances are that, at some point during your life, you came to Alley Pond Environmental Center for a school trip, children’s program or birthday party. From the small beginnings that we had back in 1976, we are now seeing over 52,000 people per year, both children and adults!

We also expect that number to grow as we expand our facilities with a planned new building, which is expected to be constructed within the next few years. As we celebrate our 35th anniversary this year, we invite you to join us on our Facebook page and share a memory that you have of the center or a picture that was taken here.

APEC is open to the public and has free admission Monday through Friday and most weekends as well. Come in at any time and walk our trails or visit the animal room.

And don’t forget, we couldn’t have gotten here without your help. Keep supporting our membership program, taking our classes and attending our special events - maybe even donate to our annual campaign!
