Free Seminar -- In town, and by phone. For Parents of Teens.

Ivy Bound is again offering to area parents its "Know the SAT / Understanding College Admissions" seminar.  This runs 60 minutes at 7:30 - 8:30pm on various dates.  We run these on dates where there are 20 or more committed families.  For parents who prefer a different date, we offer a  telephone seminar Sunday August 5th, covering most of the same topics.  Topics are available in the Parents section of www.ivybound.net.   The phone in for this is 218-844-0850 passcode 429601.

Whether by phone or face-to-face, the seminar is free to attend with advance registration.  To join the phone seminar, please email info@ivybound.net.  If you want to attend face-to-face, please email your preferred dates and locale for an evening seminar.  You may also call Ivy Bound at 877-975-1600 or 860-666-3999.

For August, the extra topic is how a great SAT score results in $ for college.   Adding 200 points typically means offers of $5000 - $15,000 PER YEAR for college. Saving parents $40,000+ is what good coaching and diligent study can do.  We look forward to helping more area students to college success.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
