Kids Come to Rescue of Local Library

With summer almost here and the school year fading fast, the last thing you’d expect on to be on kids’ minds would be saving a library – but you’d be wrong.

In order to overcome the impact of budget cuts on the Bay Terrace Library, 12-year-old Isabel Robin and her sister Tess, 9 banded together with a couple of friends to help save the library.

Along with Claire Chen and Kortney Coburn, both 12, these blossoming activists are gathering petitioning signatures as well as books to donate and crafting bracelets to sell in support of the branch, located at 18-36 Bell Boulevard.

“Keeping the library is more than just community service,” said Isabel, adding, “It’s about inspiring others to do these little things that can make a difference.”

But it isn’t all altruism – the young Ms. has a level-headed motive behind the effort. “The books I read for school and pleasure all come from the library,” she noted. “What will my friends and I do if it was taken away?”

Good question.
