Great Escape: Songs for a Cure

Bayside residents part of musical revue and fundraiser

Show your support and enjoy yourself at the same time by attending “Songs for a Cure,” a musical revue taking place in East Meadow this weekend to raise money and awareness for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Numerous Bayside residents are among the cast who will perform Broadway songs from yesterday and today. The performance is in loving memory of Rob Bjornson, Jerry Eckers, Beatrice Harris and Kathy Hynes. It is a creation of the newly created Shadow Waltz Productions, Long Island’s Professional Non-Equity Theater Organization.

“We wanted the opportunity to give back to the community and donate money to a worthy cause,” says Tracy Schrier, a Bayside resident who is one of the group’s founders and will be performing in the show. “We are a new theater group so this was a good way for us to get started. Bringing people together to work hard doing something they love, raising awareness, and having a good time were our goals for this production.”

Among the cast who range in age from 8 to 60, Bayside residents include Melissa Cavaliere — another founder of the group, Cathy and Julianna Chimenti and Rhea Arkin. Nearby residents Lindsay Levy from Floral Park and Tom Newby from Flushing will also be performing. The audience will be treated to songs from popular Broadway shows such as Guys and Dolls, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, Wicked, Mary Poppins, Next to Normal, Hair, Jekyll and Hyde, 13, Fiddler on the Roof and many more. Numbers will feature soloists, duets, and full cast ensemble numbers. There are also two big dance scenes.
