Former Sen. Padavan Suffers 'Slight' Stroke

Queens GOP leader Phil Ragusa confirms hospitalization; reports that longtime elected official talking, 'in good spirits'

Former Sen. Frank Padavan suffered a stroke last week and is currently recovering at New York Hospital-Queens in Flushing, Queens County Republican chairman Phil Ragusa confirmed today.

Ragusa said he visited the longtime elected official's bedside on Sunday.

"He was doing fine, sitting up in bed," Ragusa said. "He was himself."

According to the GOP official, Padavan suffered a 'slight' stroke last Wednesday.

A request for an update on the former senator's condition from a New York Hospital Queens spokeswoman was still pending.

At the time of his retirement earlier this month, the 76-year-old Padavan was New York State's longest-serving senator.

On Dec. 30, friends and longtime constituents Mayor Michael Bloomberg at a well-attended "farewell" party in Padavan's honor at Leonard's of Great Neck.
