FIVE THINGS: Occupy Wall Street or Mace

September 26, 2011

1. It sure looks like these women were maced in the face by cops, while just milling around inside the confinement of their coop. But then, the camera does jerk away from the allegedly brutalizing cops and their alleged victims during this moment of the Occupy Wall Street Protest. Watch, and you decide

2. NYPD didn't have anything specific to that incident to clarify, explain or comment on, reports NY1.

3. But my favorite twitterer, author Dana Vachon, had tweeted this satirical bit about the macing incident; "Sunday night dinner with Ahmadinejad, who finds in the macing of innocent women a common ground between American [sic.] and Iran."

4. Do you know what to do if you're stopped by police? The NYCLU has put together a palm card/phone app as a crib sheet of your rights. Though, to be honest, some bad cops don't always abide by the law in their interactions with people with cameras and camera phones, like many of the Occupy Wall Street folks. That's your local editor relaying boiled annecdotes, and speaking from her own experience.

5. Councilman Peter Vallone, D-Astoria, told NY1; "We have emergency vehicles to get through, people have actually jobs to get to, unlike these protestors, apparently... And the police have every right to use the force that they deem necessary to arrest if people aren't cooperating."
