Does Queens Root for the Yankees?

According to one study, Northeast Queens has snubbed its home team.

Baysiders cheer for the Pinstripes, according to a recent study by Hopstop.com.

A Web site that provides mass transit directions and travel time estimates, Hopstop compared the number of searches for Citi Field versus Yankee Stadium from Bayside. They divided results for both teams by the number of home games they've played.

Out of 42 neighborhoods compared in Queens, Bayside was ranked the 10th largest Yankees stronghold.

Yankee Stadium is searched for more than twice as frequently as Citi Field, according to the study.

Hopstop’s methodology does not figure in factors such as a neigborhood’s proximity to either stadium, or neighborhoods that sit on the Port Washington LIRR—or same subway line—as either stadium.

Hopstop does acknowledge flaws in the method, explaining;

...there are a number of reasons why our analysis may not be as foolproof as we would like. For instance, if we find more searches from a given area to Yankee Stadium (vs. Citi Field), that could imply that the area is more of a Yankee town than a Mets town, but it also may reflect some other factors as well: maybe it’s easier for Mets fans in this area to drive to Citi Field, or perhaps they already know how to get there and don’t need HopStop’s directions.

The study reflects that New York and Queens are Yankees country.
